01 Jun Rep. Duckworth Stood Up for Farmers, by Dale Tyler of Horry County

I want to recognize South Carolina state Rep. Gregory Duckworth for his support on H.3564. Recently, this bill proposing a surface water permitting act went to discussion during a subcommittee hearing at the State House.

Thank you, Rep. Duckworth, for refuting this bill and supporting South Carolina farmers. Without support from legislators like you, farmers like me could be faced with unnecessary regulations, restricting our ability to produce food and fiber.

Farmers, by nature, are resourceful people and we are always thinking of new ways to reduce our dependence on resources such as water. But the truth is water is an essential element in the production of food. We are at the mercy of Mother Nature, and when dry weather strikes, we must rely on water to meet our production needs.

Duckworth understands the demands of wise water use within the agricultural communities in our state, and for that, farmers all across South Carolina thank him.
