24 Jun WMBF News: Optimist Club Presents Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The North Strand Optimist Club announced Det. William Lynch its annual Police Officer of the Year and PSO Fire Lieutenant James Vreeland its Firefighter of the Year during a luncheon at the Grill House Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, according to a news release from the City of North Myrtle Beach.
South Carolina Senator Greg Hembree presented the awards to Det. Lynch and Fire Chief Garry Spain, who accepted the award on Lt. Vreeland’s behalf.
South Carolina Representative Greg Duckworth also attended the ceremony.
Every year the North Strand Optimist Club raises monies through many fundraisers to help several Non-Profit Organizations whose main focus is on children.
According to the North Stand Optimist Club’s Facebook page, the club’s mission is to provide hope and positive vision, bringing out the best in kids.
